The Next Step

The next step after salvation is baptism.

As a follower of Christ, every believer, no matter the age, should take the important step of being baptized, making a public declaration of their faith in Christ. This can happen during one of our baptism services, typically offered every 6-8 weeks. The following two easy steps will help prepare your child for this meaningful event in their spiritual journey.

Preparation Process

As part of the preparation process, we've included some conversation points for you,
as the parent, to better help your child understand what they are doing.

1. Say:

Baptism is the outward expression of an inward decision. Baptism is when we go under the water, symbolizing:

  • Washing away all the dirty stuff - sins.

  • Jesus' death and resurrection - Jesus died and came back to life again on the third day.

Look up Matthew 3:1-16, Matthew 28:16-20, John 3:1-21.

Ask: Does this mean you'll never sin again?
Look up John 1:8-10 and Romans 6:1-6.
No. You do not need to live a life that chooses sin, but you will continue to make mistakes (sin). Only Jesus lived a sinless life.

Ask: When you sin again, what do you do?
Most kids are more concerned with getting in trouble with Mom or Dad than asking God for forgiveness, so it's hard for them to not connect "getting in trouble" when we talk about God and sin. Make sure they understand that it's by the grace and love of Jesus that our sins are forgiven.

The answer is confess or "say" your sins to God in prayer and sometimes to the person we have done wrong to.
